Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the VocaFlare Clips API ("the API") and this website. By creating a key or calling the API you agree to them. If you use the API on behalf of a company, you accept them for that company.
The service
The API returns metadata about short public videos: clip identifiers, CEFR levels, transcripts and the timestamps at which words are spoken. It does not host or serve video. Playback happens through the source platform's official embed, under that platform's terms.
Accounts and keys
- You sign in with a VocaFlare account. You are responsible for the activity under it.
- API keys are secret. Keep them on a server, never in a browser bundle or mobile binary. You are responsible for requests made with your keys until you revoke them.
- Limits (requests per day or month, requests per minute) depend on your plan and are listed on the Pricing page.
Plans, billing and renewal
- The trial plan is free and for evaluation only; commercial traffic needs a paid plan.
- Paid plans are subscriptions billed monthly or yearly in advance. Our reseller and Merchant of Record is Lemon Squeezy, which processes the payment, issues the invoice and handles sales tax or VAT.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal on the keys page; the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, then the account returns to the trial limits.
- A plan you hold keeps its price for as long as it stays active. Prices for new subscriptions may change.
- Refunds follow the Refund Policy.
Acceptable use
You may store API responses, query them and build products on them while your plan is active. You may not:
- resell or redistribute the index itself as a dataset, or dump it in bulk;
- use the API to build a competing clip index;
- circumvent rate limits or quotas, for example by opening several accounts;
- hide the source platform's player branding or controls, or present clips as your own recordings.
Attribution
Show the source channel's name with a link to the video, and a visible "Clips by VocaFlare" link to https://clips.vocaflare.com where clips appear. Enterprise agreements can waive the VocaFlare credit. Details: Playback and attribution.
Content from third parties
The videos belong to their creators and live on their platform. A clip can disappear from the index at any time, for example when the video is removed or its owner asks us to drop it. We do not guarantee that a given clip or word stays available. Channel owners who want their videos removed from the index can write to [email protected].
Availability and changes
We aim to keep the API available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service outside a signed Enterprise agreement. Version 1 of the API follows the compatibility promise in Versioning: documented fields are not removed or renamed.
Suspension
We may suspend a key or account that breaks these terms, puts the service at risk, or fails to pay. Where possible we tell you first and give you a chance to fix it.
Disclaimer and liability
The API and its data are provided "as is". Levels, transcripts and timestamps are generated automatically and can contain errors. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes are announced on this site at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the API after that means you accept the new terms.
